Estepona Walking Football Club Launches with Successful First Training Session

A new walking football club has officially launched in Estepona, with the first training session proving a great success and giving local players the chance to discover a different way to enjoy the beautiful game.

Estepona Walking Football Club (EWFC) launched in early May, welcoming men aged 50 and over who want to stay active, meet new people, and continue playing football in a friendly, social environment.

The club’s first training session gave everyone a feel for how walking football works. As the name suggests, there is no running and no contact, making it an ideal way to enjoy football while taking the strain out of the game.

Sessions are designed to be enjoyable and accessible, starting with a gentle warm-up before moving into passing and positional exercises. The session finishes with small-sided games, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to get involved and put their skills into practice.

With the warmer weather arriving in Andalucía, players are encouraged to bring trainers with a flat sole, comfortable clothing and, most importantly, plenty of water. The heat is the main thing to respect at this time of year, so sessions are structured with this in mind.

Walking football is a growing sport across Europe and offers the chance to enjoy the competitive side of football without the running and physical demands of the traditional game.

For many players, it’s also about much more than what happens on the pitch, it’s the friendships, the social side and being part of a team.
